Safer Recruitment Statement
At Winner Education, safeguarding children and young people is at the heart of everything we do. We are fully committed to creating a culture that promotes the welfare of children and ensures that robust procedures are in place to deter, identify and reject unsuitable individuals from working within education settings.
Our safer recruitment processes are conducted in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025, Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) guidance, and all relevant safeguarding legislation. We ensure that safeguarding responsibilities are embedded throughout every stage of the recruitment cycle.
Our Commitment
We will:
- Promote the welfare and safety of children as a fundamental priority
- Ensure at least one safer recruitment trained member of staff is involved in every interview process
- Clearly communicate safeguarding responsibilities in all job advertisements
- Conduct thorough shortlisting and interview processes, including exploring employment gaps and motivations for working with children
- Undertake comprehensive pre-employment vetting checks before any candidate is placed within a school or education setting
Rigorous Pre-Employment Checks
Before placing any candidate into a regulated activity role, we carry out:
- Enhanced DBS checks (including children’s barred list information)
- Identity, address and National Insurance verification
- Right to Work checks
- Verification of professional qualifications and Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) status where applicable
- Section 128 and childcare disqualification checks (where relevant)
- Overseas police checks (where required)
- A minimum of two professional references covering recent employment history
- Online searches as part of due diligence
We do not accept CVs in place of application forms and require full employment history with explanations for any gaps.
Ongoing Safeguarding Culture
Safeguarding does not end at placement. We expect all staff, candidates and partner schools to share relevant safeguarding information appropriately and lawfully in the public interest. Information is shared on a strict need-to-know basis to ensure children remain protected at all times.
Our full Safer Recruitment Policy is available upon request and forms part of our wider safeguarding framework.
